Expert Liveaboard Coaching
for Your First Year Afloat

Avoid the expensive mistakes and get clear, practical guidance on boat systems, safety, refits, and day-to-day life aboard.

Is Liveaboard Coaching Right For You?

If you’re serious about living aboard and don’t want to learn everything the hard (and expensive) way, this is for you.

You’re in the right place if…

  • You’re thinking about buying a sailboat, catamaran, or trawler and don’t want to pick a lemon.

  • You’ve just bought a boat and are realizing how much you don’t know yet.

  • You’re planning to move aboard in the next 6–18 months and want realistic expectations.

  • You feel overwhelmed by systems (electrical, plumbing, power, HVAC, etc.).

  • You want a safer, more comfortable first year without burning all your time and money on the wrong projects.

What I help you solve

  • Boat selection & survey sanity checks
Is this boat a good candidate or a nightmare in disguise?

  • Refit & project triage
What must be done before you live aboard vs. what can wait a season.

  • Critical systems & power
Batteries, shore power, charging, inverters, solar, load management.

  • Comfort & livability
Heat/cooling, condensation, noise, storage, kid/family layout realities.

  • Budget & planning
Realistic first-year cost ranges, what people underestimate, and where money is best spent early.

If you’re about to commit real money and real years of your life to this, I help you stack the odds in your favor.

How a Coaching Session Works

A structured, 30 or 60-minute call designed to give you clarity, direction, and a prioritized action plan for your first year aboard.

1. Book a session

Choose a time that works for your schedule and complete a short pre-call form so I understand your goals, boat details, or biggest concerns.

2. Share anything you want reviewed

Boat listings, survey PDFs, photos or videos of your boat, refit plans, etc. Send whatever helps me understand your situation before we talk.

3. We meet for a 30 or 60-minute call

We sit down on a Google Meet video call, go through your questions, identify the real issues behind them, and map out practical next steps you can act on right away.

4. You get your next steps

You’ll leave with a concise summary of what we talked about, what to do next, what can wait, and how to avoid unnecessary expenses in your first year aboard.

Every session is practical, honest, and grounded in real experience.

About Your Coach

I’ve spent the past several years living aboard a 40’ sailing catamaran with my family, shaping the lifestyle into something comfortable and sustainable for people who aren’t trying to “rough it.” With a background in software architecture and systems design, I treat life on the water as a constrained system with real tradeoffs, competing needs, and limited resources that still has to function as a home. This hasn’t been a single-man minimalist experiment. I’ve lived it with small children, a pregnant partner, shifting routines, and all the negotiations of space, comfort, and daily rhythm that come with a full crew. I understand how environmental choices affect everyone aboard, not just the person who bought the boat. The value I bring is helping you understand the lifestyle system itself: expectations, friction points, routines, and decision frameworks that determine whether this life feels stable or chaotic. My role is to take your circumstances and my lived experience to map out realistic options that fit who you are, not a generic ideal. This is contextual, practical problem-solving grounded in the realities of making a small space work for real people.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to already own a boat to work with you?
No. A lot of people book before they buy. We can talk about what you want your life to look like, what type of boats and locations support that, and what to watch for so you don't back yourself into something that only works on paper.
What if I'm already living aboard and just feeling stuck or overwhelmed?
That's very common. We can look at your routine, the boat, the marina or cruising plan, and the specific points where you feel drained or discouraged. Often small changes in setup, expectations, or rhythm can make a big difference.
Will you tell me which boat to buy or what exact decisions to make?
I don't choose your boat or make final decisions for you. What I do is help you see tradeoffs, blind spots, and likely consequences so you can make choices that fit your risk tolerance, budget, and goals.
Is this technical consulting, therapy, or something in between?
It's somewhere in between. I'm not a therapist, and I don't pretend to be one. But we will talk about how you think, what you expect from this lifestyle, and what it's doing to your time, energy, and relationships—alongside whatever technical or logistical questions you have.
Do you offer ongoing support or multiple-session packages?
Yes. If, after the first call, it makes sense to keep working together, we can set up a recurring check-in schedule or a short series of calls around a specific transition, refit, or cruising season.
